It’ s a new year, yet a lot of us have similar resolutions as last year. What went wrong?
Unlike some people who try to set unrealistic goals, I make sure I actually see through to what I envision for the year and do it – it’s that simple! I know that it is very difficult to to follow through to our goals but if we continue the path of saying what we don’t mean and doing what we don’t want, we will self-destruct.
A native Sierra Leonean, Fatima came to the United States in 2001 in search of a better future. She presently works for Sahara Reporters and Applause Africa Magazine. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Journalism.
As the Editor-in-Chief of The Meridian, the Lehman College newspaper, and the Vice-President of The African Student’s Association, Fatima managed over 30 staff members, and was able to develop exceptional leadership skills.
Fatima has also travelled with the Lehman L.I.F.E Community Service program to New Orleans to build a house for Hurricane Katrina victims, and to Apopka Florida to work with Migrant Farmers. Through her extracurricular activities and childhood experiences from back home, Fatima has cultivated the skills to bring people of different cultures and social beliefs together.
Through her outstanding performance on November 10, Fatima has sent the message that the African culture vibrates in the mind and soul of Africans regardless of their place of residence.
As a US-Africa Ambassador, her role is to advocate for reinvestment in community building through education and gender equality.
The US-Africa Ambassadorship aims to develop young African women as leaders and luminaries so that they can be the change that they want to see in their communities.
